First off, nice work on this server appearance and hakpak useage.

Now then, a few things. I KNOW this world is a work in progress so these are just suggestions.

1. Death penalty: So far everytime my toon has died he's been charged all of the XP he gained since the last level. Is this normal and if so...ouch.

2. Respawning containers: Might be nice to have them respawn every fifteen minutes or so. This would make it worth it for players who go explore and find a cave "Woohoo!" and find nothing but nasties roaming it, die, and have nothing to show for it. Wait, that was me. Very Happy

3. Random encounters: Okay, I can see this as a problem for non-sneakers. Wandering along...suddenly a pack of wolves spawns right on top of you. DIE DIE Dead. Ouch.

4. Solace tree walkways: So I know it looks cool and all but it's kind of annoying to be walking along and not be able to walk under the bridges. Make a fence or something so people know not to try for ten minutes to go under a bridge...Wait, that was me. Very Happy

5. Creature imbalance: Stirges hit insanely often. Seeing as how they drain a point of CON everytime you fail a save that's harshness...coupled with a low XP rating. Now come along flying eyes...easy peasy and worth 20x as much as a stirge. Really? Oh don't get me started on Krynn Demi Liches and Basilisks.

I'll think of more observations in a little bit of playing...right now I have to get back 2700xp from the last death. Here flying eye! Here little eye! Very Happy

Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi Doug.

Good to see you in game yesterday.
Just been reading the suggestions post and i would like to reply to each issue in turn. Please note these are my thoughts and by no means are they final decisions

1. Death Penalty.. I think its tough at first when a char is level 3 or 4 but the key is financial.. as soon as your char gets a little bit of $$$ they buy or find some usefull items and are far more able to adventure to the areas where the fighting is tough.. Get together with one or two of the higher level chars and let them help you find a few loot drops and some Exp.. you'll soon be able to fend for yourself.

2. Respawn times.. Personally i like how we have it now.. I remember many servers where loot and monsters carrying loot would respawn frequently.. It almost always encouraged a player to stay in one area repeating the fights and collecting the loot which is just un-realistic.. a respawn of loot every 24 hrs would be the maximum i would set if it was to be changed..

3. Trigger and spawn points are pretty much always in seperate locations.. but in a world where an adventurer is traveling from one village to the next and crossing areas without roads or paths its natural to expect the creatures of the wild to be around sniffing out a meal. With time you will be able to deal with most of the random encounters.

4. LOL.. annoying is maybe too strong a word,, its a minor inconvenience and as the bridgewalks make this version of Solace the BEST i have ever seen in a DL mod i say keep em as they are.. RP wise i see it like not walking under a ladder cos it brings bad luck..

5. On this I tend to agree with some of the comments. Although XP drops as your level increases so those flying eyes will soon be worth only a small amount.

All in all i think the builders of the mod and the team working to keep it progressing like to hear constructive criticism as it keeps us focused. And again the above comments are just the musings of a grumpy old fart that likes to send Evil Arch Mages in to solace to terrorize sweet little kender. Glad your here buddy

Sorry for my slowlyness, but I had a hell of a week...

OK, here I go:

1. It's been a great while, that I looked into the death scripts. Pentalty calculation is depending on the level (the higher, the more). I'll test out the dying with a lvl 3 toon. Maybe it needs adjustments for that level. But as Armageddon said: Travelling in a party is a bit less risky, of course.

2. The treasure system has been implemeted by Evenstar. Also something I would have to check out. But I do agree with Armageddon: If there is a way to do a treasure reset, it'd be timespan, which does not invite to stay and wait. But a respawn after a certain time also makes sense to me.

3. Also: The module gives you much freedom to explore as long as you stick to the civilized parts and ON THE ROADS. Many locations are reachable without getting harmed (maybe a little stich, but it should not be mortal - even for a lvl 3 toon).

4. Bridgewalks: This has 2 reasons: The technical one is, that NWN is not able to make areas walkable in a raised location and crossable beneath it at the same time. The other is... time... You are right: It does make sense to block it visually. And I did that in Solace East with brambles and stones. I was going to do that for the other areas, too, but, by the time, those areas were in a workable shape = released (but without the visual blocks), other things regarding the module - more urgent things -were already callling again... But one day, I'll add some visual hints...

5. Yes, there may be creatures, which are not well balanced. There is always so much to do, that this tends to be forgotten. So please report and we try to look into it as soon as possible. Also: If you fight in a group, the XP may be devided upon the participating party members.

Again: Thanks for your thoughts. There are still many things, which are not perfect. But times keeps on slipping and some things are missed or forgotten, that they should have been looked after! (Damn RL  Smile !)
And keep on telling thoughts, please.

for walking under bridges, might want to put a thin area trigger on both side and make it a jump to point/inner-area transition.

Encounter imbalance, well for a certain area, a named Lich got it's rear kicked for a party reward of 15xp, and yet a certain dragon that remains in shadows was only getting hit on natural 20's and has an AC of better than 42 as couldn't hit on a modified roll of 42.

and as to that cave off of Solace, only Master Yoda and Luke Skywalker are ment to enter...

Named lich and a dragon... Yes, I saw the server logs and had a nice laugh! I didn't built those areas and I don't have a toon to survive them, so I never noticed. That should be changed!
 Laughing

Solace - under the walkways: Transitions would be possible, but there would be many blue trigger areas and one would appear at waypoints not necessarily opposite of the spot, where the trigger was entered. Well, non area transition triggers would do (to not have that bluish glow all over the place), but  that would mean to create a script for each trigger. We must think about that.

Death penalty: I did a test and my lvl 3 test toon lost all its XP. I checked the scripts and it should be, that the penalty for lvl 3 toons is VERY small (just a little pinch), but it doesn't seem to work the way it should. It's been a great while, that I started a fresh toon and nobody else pointed this out, so it slipped our notice. I will recheck the system, but I don't think, that I'll be able to get it done this weekend.

The Skywalker cave: If you are speaking of the entrance right east of Solace: That area beyond has not been created.  Embarassed

I was referring to the one near the Picnic area with the Stirges and Lich's

Ah! That one! Well, the smart people of Solace left a sign of warning at the entrance... Yes, that one is more for Joda and Luke. It was one of the first caves of the module (thus it's still there) and it does not really fit into the "it's pretty safe, if you stay close to the settlements" - concept.
So, please heed the sign. Wink

I totally forgot to thank you for the kudos.  Very Happy

@ 1 (Death): I found the culprit! An applied variable had the wrong value! But by system, level 3 PCs get a "free ride" only to the Realm Of Mishakal - not to the death spot. ATM I'm trying to expand the system, so the return to the death spot is also an option. I'm making good progress. Hope, that I manage to get it in for this weekend.

Done! No XP penalty for level 3 PCs and the choice between the Realm of Mishakal and the "deathspot". Still, there is a little penalty for level 3 PCs, too!

OK, I'm taking a dive into our custom XP-system. Again, something which was not implemented by me and nobody pointed out any issues, so it juts stayed as it is. By now, I understood the structure and will try to balance it a bit better.
The Eyewings have a CR of 6 and fought with a level 3 toon ATM results in a much too high XP reward. (The system calculates the CR against the PC level - the further appart, the more XP!) I have to find out, why they have a CR of 6.

Stirges: I'm not sure, if I can lower the possibility of a hit or raising the CR without raising the chance to hit the PC, but I'll check.

Generally: If you fight in a group, ATM the XPs are devided among those close to the fight, also taking in calculation, if there is a low level toon together with a high level toon -> prevents low level watcher from being rewarded via a higher level "tank".  Wink

Evil Arch Mages: LOL! That one fired a completely different OnDeath script which seems to have a weird way to calculate the XP! Have to merge that into the general XP system.
